During my time as a graduate student at Northwestern University, I learned the basics of HTML, CSS, Flash and jQuery. As the digital director for Medill’s Magazine Innovation Project, I wrote guidelines for our editorial vision, as well as content and social media strategies. I forecast a plan to optimize web traffic, and worked with our sales department on a plan to monetize our web products.
When I landed my first job at the Daily Press & Argus, I rapidly put those skills to work, implementing a social media plan to grow our publication’s engagement with our audience.
This engagement was evidenced in a 20% increase in unique visitor traffic to our website, as well as positive chatter about our brand in the social media sphere.
Along with my social media initiative, I run the day-to-day operations of www.livingstondaily.com, including posting breaking news updates from local, regional and national Gannett properties. I also work closely with our advertising department to provide them with the web traffic statistics they need to maximize sales.
