This internship at Whirl magazine, completed after my sophomore year of college, was my introduction to the world of magazine publishing. Due to the magazine’s small size, I was included in many of the day-to-day operations, including editorial meetings, advertising strategy, photo selection, headline writing and copy editing. Write-ups of philanthropic events were my main contribution to the publication, as well as creating copy for product spreads and performing other office tasks. In addition, I was tasked with fact checking both the monthly calendar, and the publication’s year-long event calendar published in August. I was often not bylined in the publication, but the spreads below were written by or contributed to by me, and are intended to give an overall feel of the publication.
